It is my great pleasure to announce that the 89th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Hematology will be held at Fukuoka International Congress Center and Marine Messe Fukuoka over the three days from October 8 (Fri) to 10 (Sun), 2027. I am deeply honored to serve as President of this time-honored conference of our Society, and I am endeavoring to prepare a highly productive gathering for everyone.

The theme of this year’s meeting is “Where possibilities bloom.”

Hematology has been evolving tremendously in areas ranging from basic research to clinical research and day-to-day medical practice. New pathological insights and discoveries have opened the door to novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, leading to improvements in survival and quality of life for patients. Each and every step forward has been made possible by out-of-the-box thinking, ceaseless efforts, and encounters and dialogue among many different people.

In Japan, hematological care depends on a limited number of hematologists who are responsible for providing a broad range of medical care. I believe that is vital for our annual meeting to be a forum for pursuing cutting-edge science, and for updating ourselves on the latest treatments and knowledge so that we can acquire information that will support tomorrow’s clinical practice. Along with pivotal research achievements, discoveries that improve tomorrow’s medical care even in small ways are also “seeds of possibility” that lay the groundwork for the future.

Our annual meeting is not just simply a place for presenting research results. It is also a place for sharing knowledge across different fields, engaging in discussions that transcend generational and professional boundaries, and transforming the insights gained into new research ideas, collaborative studies, and the next breakthroughs. In particular, I believe that one of the core missions of the annual meeting is to enable young researchers and practitioners to come into contact with the wisdom of their predecessors and expand their own potential so that they can pave the way for the next era of hematology.

The theme of “Where possibilities bloom” embodies the hope that the 89th Annual Meeting will both carry on the insights amassed over the years and give rise to new ideas and challenges to pursue—and thus serve as a place where all our different possibilities can burst into blossom. We hope that it will give birth to new possibilities through the sharing of diverse knowledge and experiences across different generations and specialties, and that those possibilities will ultimately grow into new forms of research, practice, and therapy that create a better future for patients.

The host city, Fukuoka, has long served as a gateway for exchange with other regions of Japan and with the world. Through that role, it has embraced diverse cultures and knowledge that have helped it become a locus of innovation. We look forward to welcoming many of you from across Japan and the globe to Fukuoka for lively discussions and exchanges on the present and future of hematology.

Your active participation will be greatly appreciated.
