The 16th JSH International Symposium 2026 in Kamakura

Preface

Dear Colleagues,

It is my great honor and privilege to serve as the president of the 16th Japanese Society of Hematology (JSH) International Symposium. The symposium will be held on May 15-16, 2026, at the Kamakura Prince Hotel, a venue rich in history and natural beauty. The theme of this symposium is “Stem Cells and Beyond”, reflecting our focus on the biology of hematopoietic stem cells, malignant stem cells of hematologic tumors, stem cell-based therapies, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Hematopoietic stem cells have long been a cornerstone of research in hematology. From their fundamental biology to their clinical applications, including transplantation and novel cellular therapies, advances in this field continue to transform our understanding and treatment of various hematologic disorders. Recent breakthroughs in single-cell analysis, gene editing, and immune modulation are further expanding the possibilities of stem cell research and its impact on patient care.

This symposium will bring together leading scientists and clinicians from around the world to exchange the latest knowledge and discuss future directions in stem cell-based hematology. We have exciting sessions such as on HSC biology, clonal hematopoiesis, leukemia stem cells, aging and inflammation, iPSC-derived cell therapy and stem cell transplantation. Thanks to a long-standing friendship and collaboration with ASH and EHA, we have joint sessions on next generation cell therapy and HSC dynamics. Through this rich and intensive program, we hope to create a platform for active discussions that will drive innovation and collaboration in both basic research and clinical practice.

Beyond the scientific program, Kamakura, as one of Japan’s ancient capitals, offers a truly unique setting that blends rich cultural heritage such as the Great Buddha and Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine with the natural beauty of the Shonan coastline and stunning view of Mt. Fuji. I hope a serene and inspiring atmosphere Kamakura offers will foster deep conversations and new collaborations among participants.

I look forward to welcoming you all to Kamakura and to an engaging and fruitful symposium.

Hideaki Nakajima
President, 16th Japanese Society of Hematology International Symposium
